The Lodge is a rare opportunity to experience Door County as it once was, thoughtfully restored for the way we live now.

Owners John Gross and Kathy Van Gemert have preserved the building’s original character wherever possible, from hand-blown glass windows and historic finishes to original floors, architectural details and the wonderful quirks that come with a building of this age.

Modern comforts have been introduced where they matter, including updated plumbing, comfortable bedding and thoughtfully incorporated appliances. The result feels collected rather than decorated, preserving the personality of the original inn while creating a warm, comfortable place to stay together.

THE LODGE AT A GLANCE

Approximately 1,800 square feet, The Lodge pairs individually designed guest rooms with shared gathering spaces made for spending time together. Guests have access to two shared bathrooms, The Gathering Room, a two-room dining and kitchenette space with a refrigerator, microwave, historic sink and generous counter space, plus the original 68-foot hall.

Throughout, modern bedding meets vintage and heirloom-inspired furnishings, preserved hand-blown glass windows and original architectural details. The television-free setting sits within five acres of gardens and historic grounds, with Osteria Tre Tassi just one floor below. For larger groups, neighboring Luxury Cottages can be reserved alongside The Lodge. A minimum three-room reservation provides private use of the second floor.

TWO SHARED BATHROOMS

The Lodge includes two shared bathrooms for your group, with updated plumbing and modern conveniences incorporated into the building’s historic footprint.

Original details have been preserved wherever possible, including historic tile and the hand-blown glass windows found throughout the Lodge.

THE GATHERING ROOM

The heart of The Lodge is a spacious shared room made for being together and doing as much or as little as you please.

Read. Play a game. Put on music. Talk for hours. Enjoy the view. Or find a comfortable corner and take in a little Door County quiet.

You’ll find no televisions here. The Gathering Room was created for a different kind of connection.

Even the building itself has a story to tell. A letter dating to 1920, discovered inside a wall during restoration, is now displayed in the room.

DINING & KITCHENETTE

Across from The Gathering Room, a cozy two-room dining and kitchenette space gives everyone another place to come together over morning coffee, breakfast, a casual bite or a glass of wine.

A historic sink, refrigerator, microwave and generous counter space make it easy to keep drinks, snacks and simple meals close at hand throughout your stay.

And when you would rather leave dinner to someone else, Osteria Tre Tassi is just one flight of stairs below.

OSTERIA TRE TASSI

One of the best parts of staying at The Griffin Inn is knowing dinner is close.

Located one floor below The Lodge, Osteria Tre Tassi brings Italian cooking, wine and cocktails to the historic grounds, putting a full dining experience just a few stairs from your room.

GOOD TO KNOW

The Lodge occupies the restored second floor of the original Griffin Inn and offers a distinctly different experience from a traditional hotel.

A minimum reservation of three guest rooms provides your group with exclusive use of the second floor and its shared spaces during your stay. The Gathering Room, dining and kitchenette areas, and two bathrooms are shared among members of your group.

The Lodge is part of a living, working historic building. Osteria Tre Tassi is located directly below, with occupied spaces elsewhere in the Inn. Because the original structure is not soundproof, guests should expect to occasionally hear the natural sounds of restaurant service, conversation and movement within the building.

For guests seeking a more private, traditional lodging experience, The Griffin Inn’s neighboring Luxury Cottages offer a distinctly different way to stay. Additional cottages may also be reserved alongside The Lodge for larger gatherings.
